Calendar: Rides & Events Calendar

04/22/12
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
Who's Invited: ATVs
Distance: 50+ Miles
Speed: Average

Sunday Casner Loop,
Start near Cottonwood; go up Casner Mt. to just south of I-40 then across Garland Prairie
and south to White Horse Lake then on to Perkinsville, Jerome, Clarkdale and back to the staging
area.
Directions: From I-17, exit 287, then west on HWY 260 towards Cottonwood
Go through 4 stop lights and turn right at the 5th light on HWY 89 heading to Sedona.
There will be a Denny's on your right after turn onto 89, if you want food.
Continue north on HWY 89 for 2.8 miles to Bill Gray Road (big Catholic Church on the left)
Then about 9.3 miles on Bill Gray Rd to staging area: 34°51'57.13"N 111°59'25.24"W
Meet at staging area at 7:30 AM and ride at 8:00AM prompt.
The loop is 100+ miles so bring gas, tools, tire stuff and food as lunch will be on the trail.
Near the end of the loop, we will be transiting through Jerome and Clarkdale on pavement for about 5 miles so make sure your rig is STREET LEGAL and under 50 inches.
The first 4 miles, of the loop, will be a little grumpy, but nothing too bad, there will be a long climb up the zigzags to the top of Casner Mt. Bring your camera as the views will be spectacular to say the least.

I have a Subaru Forester with a little bit bigger tires, I have AWD and have no problem off road, its some clearance issues that only give me problems. Can 4x4's handle this run or is it for atv's?

Is this too rough a trail for a stock Jeep Liberty 4x4?

What section of the ride is on 50" trail? Relatively short bypass route around that part of the ride? Been looking for a ride in the near future.

I never did understand the philosophy of driving around closed locked gates. Is it permissible in this case?

There is a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood sign at the bottom, Stating that it is motorized route 8. M8 goes between the two wilderness, Scyamore and Secret Mt,

The two yellow gates only keep LARGE vehicle out, but can be opened up for large vehicle clubs that obtain permission.
