Skid Plates for RZR
I have been tracking down a noise I have had coming from the underbody of my RZR for a few months. I trace it to some minor damage on the skid plate of my RZR. I t has broke away for holding screws so it is rattling on the passenger side. I either going to fix or replace the skid plate. Since most people here know I am a moderate rider at most just wondering if the metallic skid plate is an overkill for me if I do decide to replace. On the other hand, I have managed to break the factory one within 2 years (I am not sure when it happened).
Wondering what fellow SxS'ers thoughts are on this, repair (I could probably do it with oversize washers, looks like 2 or 3 bolts need repair. Or I could replace with factory plastic (what ever it is) or metallic plates. When I go to Side by Side they have like 20 different ones to choose from also.

Myself I would just repair with an oversized washer/fender washer and a button head allen bolt should do the job

Luke, that's exactly what I was thinking with the over sized washer comment. I am going to drop the plate when it cools down a little and open up the oil plug access hole a little bit also. They could have made that a little bit larger in my opinion

Try the washer trick.
I have a brand new factory "skidplate" that I took off when I armored my RZR. It could be had real cheap if you want to replace it.

Gary, I would recommend going with a UHMW skid plate. I believe they can be had for under 150.00 from Rocky Mountain or E-Bay. If you truly ride moderately I don't think you would need one of the more expensive ones. The aluminum skids don't slide over rocks near as well as the UHMW ones.
I also have a factory one in the garage replaced with a UHMW, its definitely not new but you can have it if you want it. You would have to come up to Prescott Valley to pick it up, but it would save you the time in trying to repair the old one. This one has been on my RZR for a little over a year and has taken some abuse, but there are no major problems with it and it would work well for you until you got a better skid. I screwed up my back, so I haven't had a chance to cut it up into small enough pieces to fit in the garbage can.

I crawled under it yesterday and resurveyed the damage. Not as bad as it first appeared. The front corner is about 25% ripped and one on the side is about 50% ripped. Both are still actually holding in place. There are alot of cuts and slices (which means it is doing it job and so am I) and a couple of pretty good chucks. It's certainly not the emergency I first thought. But I am looking at the UHMV now for sure since I can't justify ARMOR for my riding.
I did add a couple more dings yesterday when I took it out. :-)

Also, FYI Mike, I looked at Rocky Mountain and didn't see any bottom skid plates for that price.
I already have the arm plates on, but being a good little off roader, managed to move a couple of rocks in the middle of trails with my bottom plate. I am seeing some in the $250 range. I think I am ok for another season. my toy fund is a bit depleted right now due to the recent purchase of new truck tires....

I read on another forum that Rocky Mountain was selling Tusk UHMW RZR skids for around $150 - 200. They may or may not be available anymore?? I also met a fellow on a ride about a month and a half ago that said he bought his on E-Bay for about $150. I wasn't really very interested as it was only 1/4" thick and I was looking for 3/8", so I didn't pursue it any further.
The freebie stocker is still available if your interested. I've got some other stuff I took off when I put mine on I'm going to post in "for sale" and I'll post that skid in the add also, so I won't be cutting it up anytime soon.

I think I will check the eBay path and also just keep looking. Maybe one of the disty's will do a discontinued type sale and I will get lucky.

I may be going on a ride Friday with the same group that I rode with about a month and a half ago. If the guy with the RZR with the E-Bay skid is on this ride, I'll try to get as much detail info from him as I can. I'll post anything of value here on Saturday am.
The ride is for sure, I'm not sure because of my screwed up back. Hope to be able to make it.

Hi Gary,
I made the ride yesterday and the RZR guy was at it. He didn't remember who he bought the skid from, but he did confirm that it was about $150.00. He said to do a search on "RZR Skid Plate" and you should come up with over a dozen vendors for them. If you can find the Tusk ones - they are 2 piece and probably would be much cheaper to ship. The shipping on my one piece was over $100.00 (from CA.). Sorry I couldn't get any additional information for you - good luck.
P-town? - Is that Phoenix or Prescott? Up here P-town is Prescott (nobody has heard of Phoenix - called "the Valley")
