Whiplash Class Move up question
Does anyone know what the criteria is for moving up classes? Do they move up after one race or do they wait for a couple of races to get in the books?

In my limited experience they wait a little while unless someone is brand new and they smoked everyone then they will move them up faster.

What is considered "smoked"? I'm just thinking if someone wins a class by 5 minutes and then the next 7 racers were within 6 minutes of each other, would that not warrant moving someone up?

I'd say 5 minutes is a lot but it is hard to make such a judgement based on one race. some people might just be faster at one particular track. I think it also depends on how they fit in with the next class up. If they would have been last in the next class then I doubt they would be bumped. Call up Sabrina and see what she says.

Last year I placed third at the first Wickenburg race in January/February. The two guys who got 1st and 2nd beat me by like 11 minutes and they never got moved up the entire season...

also in a 90 mile race, 5 minutes isn't that long. most people took a bit under 3 hours, so 10 minutes is .03% faster or something like that. gotta figure in scale, and people tiring out in the longer races.

Very valid points guys, thanks for all the responses. Just looking at the overall picture, the guy would have won the expert class based on his time. I just really like the idea of close racing and it would suck to know at the start of the race the best you might do is 2nd.

Last year it was supposed to be that if you finished in the top third, time-wise, of the higher class, that you would be moved up to the higher class. In 2006 they would actually move people up after every race to make things competitive. Last year they NEVER moved anyone until the end of the year. With the new classes it should be a lot easier for them to move people around like they should be.

I believe Thad is correct or according to the whiplash paper if your finishes are in the top third of the class above you then you will move up. I was ten or more minutes out of the experts and usually am so I dont expect to move up but I am hoping Snowflake will put my times closer to Glen and perhaps then I will get a move up. Doubt it but hey got to shoot for something.
