Default Dirtbike/Dune question
Just curious, not being a dirtbike guy, is a rear paddle necessary for a bike out in the sand??

Thanks

not NECESSARY but its pretty hard and miserable without it. just like a quad, you can ride without a paddle, but its hard. and you can order paddle tires for not too much money. worth skipping a bit of beer to get one for the bike.

depends on the bike.... less than a 650 4 poke or 350 2 stroke you want a paddle.
I had an 85 CR 500. Didn't need a paddle. Even for China wall..... That thing was BRUTAL!
Should have kept the engine![}][}][}]

125 2stroke or 250 4stroke = 6 paddle

250 2stroke or 450 4stroke = 8 paddle

500 2stroke = 10 paddle

Too little paddle and you will spin the engine too fast and have little go. Too much paddle and you will bog the engine down and not be able to spin the tire enough. Think of it like a propeller on a airplane or a boat. You must be able to move the sand like it was a liquid in order to get forward momentum. Typically 1st gear is too low to spin the tire fast enough (digs holes). Use 1st gear to get rolling then switch to 2nd right away and apply plenty of throttle. The people riding the 500's probably already know what to do (hang on!)

He has a point a bike in the duns FLYS. I have owned 500 cc dirt bikes and know how they ran in the hare scrambles I never got the chance to ride in the sand but I bet it is fun. I am old and lazy now so I like to sit down and slide less work = more fun !!!![}]
