Default New RZR owner...need a few helpful answers
Hey...I'm new to the site and just picked up my 09 RZR yesterday. First question, is the "3hr break-in" described in the manual long enough before I "floor it"? I know the entire "break-in" period is the first 25 hrs, but I don't know how they expect new buyers to putt around for 25hrs. I just put 3hrs of slow (under 20mph) easy riding and I'm a little uneasy about ripping on it just yet. I'm probably going to do at least 3.5-4 hrs to play it safe, but any advice/experience would be great. Also, where's the best place near Tucson (walkin or online) to get skid plates for these bad boys???

Thanks in advance.

The break in is very important for the first few hours. They want everything to settle down abit. Belt, brakes, motor/drivetrain.. The key thing is not to run it at a constant speed/RPM. Vary the throttle. WOT is ok briefly, a second or two. Just dont stab it. After 2-3 hrs, you are good to go. Just dont race it around like a idiot until you have gone thru 2 tanks of fuel.

Sounds like your doing ok with the break in. Just don't lug it in high or over-rev in low and it will be fine.

Manual calls for oil change at one month or 25 hours. I changed mine at 133 miles and 10 hours on it, and there was some metal in it. IMHO 100 hours for a oil change is not enough, so I change it at about half that.

I covered my skid install here:
